Divorce Services: Knowing Your Path Forward

Divorce is not a single event. At Notaro Family Law Group, P.C., we start by helping you understand what that process looks like for your specific circumstances, so you can move through it with a clear plan rather than reacting as things arise.

Our attorneys handle every form of divorce and will help you identify which approach fits your situation:

  • Contested Divorce. When spouses cannot agree on key issues, the matter proceeds through the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas. Our attorneys advocate firmly on your behalf while working to resolve disputes as efficiently as possible.
  • Uncontested Divorce. When both parties are aligned, an uncontested divorce can move forward with less conflict and lower cost. We make sure the agreement is legally complete before anything is finalized.
  • Collaborative Divorce. In a collaborative process, both spouses and their attorneys commit to reaching resolution outside of court. It can be an effective path for families who want to minimize conflict, particularly when children are involved.
  • Divorce Mediation. Mediation gives both parties a structured setting to reach agreement with the help of a neutral third party. We represent clients in mediation and make sure their interests are protected throughout.
  • Military Divorce. Divorce involving an active-duty or retired service member involves unique legal considerations, including the division of military pensions and benefits under federal law.
  • Same-Sex Divorce. Our firm represents same-sex spouses in divorce proceedings with the same care and legal acumen we bring to every case.
  • Business Valuation. When a business is part of the marital estate, its proper valuation is central to fair equitable distribution. We work with qualified professionals to establish value and protect our clients' interests.
  • Paperwork Only. For those who have reached a complete agreement and need proper documentation and filing, we offer document preparation services.

What to Expect When You Work with Notaro Family Law Group, P.C.

  • A plan, not just a process. Our paid planning sessions, where an attorney formally reviews your situation and gives substantive legal guidance, range from $95 to $425. At that session, you will leave with a realistic picture of your best, worst, and most likely outcomes.
  • Transparent, fair billing. We send billing statements monthly and want to hear about any discrepancy immediately. Fair and accurate billing is something we take seriously and maintain throughout every case.
  • Access to your case, always. We use Clio, a secure case management platform, so your documents, calendar, and communications are available from any device at any time. You are never in the dark about your own case.
  • The right person for every question. Not every question needs to go to your attorney. Our support staff handle scheduling, case status, billing questions, and general information at no charge. Attorney time is reserved for the legal work that requires it.
  • A free call to start. If you are not sure yet what kind of help you need, we offer free phone consultations. The goal is simply to help you take the right next step.

Attorneys Who Are Built for This Work

Founding partners Attorney Bethany L. Notaro, Esq. and Attorney Margo R. Epstein, Esq. have shaped the firm around a focused, long-standing practice in family law. Attorney Notaro has over two decades of experience and leads the firm’s collaborative and mediation work. She has been recognized by Super Lawyers and consistently ranked among the top attorneys in Pittsburgh. Attorney Epstein brings extensive experience in complex family law litigation, including divorce, custody, and adoption matters, with a background that reflects both courtroom work and a practical, solution-oriented approach.

Across the team, their collective credentials include judicial clerkships at the Pennsylvania Court of Common Pleas, graduate honors from the University of Pittsburgh and Duquesne University, advanced mediation training, and backgrounds in finance, taxation, and social work that translate directly to the complexity of family law cases. One attorney has established appellate precedent before Pennsylvania's Superior Court in a landmark custody privacy case. Another earned her law school's Family Law Award before going on to handle high-asset divorces and cases at the intersection of family law and tax law. Several came to the firm with prior experience at large family law practices or in civil litigation, bringing courtroom depth that serves clients in both negotiated and contested matters.

Beyond the attorneys, Christy R. Sabol, MCC, our Director of Client Development and a Master Certified Life Coach, is available for free informational calls to help you understand your options and identify the right attorney for your situation. When you retain Notaro Family Law Group, P.C., you will be matched with the attorney whose experience and approach fit your case, with a full team behind them and direct access throughout.

Work with Attorneys Who Know This Community & Its Courts

Family law cases in Mt. Lebanon are filed and heard at the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas in Pittsburgh. Notaro Family Law Group, P.C. has been practicing in Allegheny County for over two decades, and that familiarity shapes how we prepare, advise, and advocate for our clients from the first filing to the final order. When we tell you what to expect, it is grounded in real experience with the court that will be handling your case.

Clients are often navigating this process while managing homes, careers, long-standing community ties, and in many cases, children deeply rooted in the neighborhoods and schools they have grown up in. The decisions made in a divorce or custody matter touch all of it. We take that context seriously, and we approach every case with an understanding that the legal outcome is only part of what our clients are working to protect.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to get started?

It depends on where you are in the process. Free informational calls are available with our Director of Client Development, associate attorneys, or staff. When you are ready to sit down with an attorney for formal legal guidance, paid planning sessions range from $95 to $425. For matters that qualify, we also offer fixed-fee services: a one-count uncontested divorce with no litigation or MSA starts at $1,200; a two-count uncontested divorce with a marriage settlement agreement is $2,900; mediation with a mediated agreement is $2,500; and a prenuptial agreement with a one-hour meeting is $2,500. Not every case qualifies for a fixed-fee service, but many straightforward matters do.

For an in-depth explanation of how costs are determined in a family law case, watch Attorney Notaro's detailed explanation below:

What is the difference between mediation and hiring a divorce attorney?

In mediation, a neutral third party helps both spouses work toward a voluntary agreement. The mediator does not represent either party and cannot give legal advice. only legal information. At the conclusion of a successful mediation, a memorandum of understanding or mediated agreement is drafted for both parties to sign. Retaining an attorney means that attorney represents you alone, gives you legal advice, and advocates for your interests throughout the process. Some clients use both: they mediate to reach agreement, then retain an attorney to review or formalize the paperwork.

How does the firm handle communication and case updates?

You have access to your complete case file, documents, and calendar at any time through Clio, our secure client portal, accessible from any device. For scheduling, billing, case status, and general questions, our staff and Director of Client Development are available at no charge. If you need to reach your attorney directly, you can email them or schedule a call back at any time.

I am not sure whether I even need an attorney yet. What should I do first?

Schedule a free call. Our team will help you understand what kind of matter you have, what your options are, and whether a paid planning session with an attorney makes sense for your situation. There is no obligation, and the goal of that first conversation is simply to point you in the right direction, even if that direction turns out not to involve our firm.
